After the sudden death of his alcoholic mother, Zucchini is befriended by Raymond the police officer, who accompanies him to his new foster home, filled with other orphans his age. At first he struggles to find his place in this often strange and sometimes hostile environment. But with Raymond’s help and his newfound friends, Zucchini learns to trust and love, as he searches for a new family of his own.

Zucchini’s story is as full of sorrow as of laughter, and is as sweet as it is challenging, brought to life through striking character designs and expressive stop-motion animation. This accomplished debut feature from director Claude Barras, based on a script by acclaimed writer/director Céline Sciamma (Girlhood, Tomboy) is a testament to the resilience of the human heart. Backed by critics and audiences since its debut at Cannes, with audience awards at Annecy, Melbourne, and Angoulême, and a slew of other nominations including both Best Foreign Language Film and the Best Animated Feature Film at the Academy Awards®, Ma vie de Courgette should not be missed.
