PEW! PEW! THE VFX OF STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT
May 27, 2016
One of the most hotly anticipated video game titles of 2015 was Star Wars Battlefront. Seen by many as a preview of the rebirth of the Star Wars franchise, Battlefront did not disappoint wowing both critics and fans alike with stunning visuals which helped the game become one of the best selling titles of 2015.
How did they achieve the look of the game?
Senior VFX artist Anders Egléus joins us all the way from Sweden to share insights into how the EA DICE team captured the look and feel of the original Star Wars trilogy for the video game.
Delve deep into the production as Anders explains how the Battlefront VFX team built upon the proven features of the Frostbite engine, modifying and extending them to create effects with large amounts of sparks, volumetric particle lighting and vivid fire, as well as blaster bolts, lightsabers, volume decals, lightning and background dog fighting (to name but a few), all while working under tight performance constraints and production schedule!
Please note: We originally announced that VFX artist Daniel Kopp would be joining us as well, but due to unforeseen circumstances, he won't be able to make it to Vancouver this time. We hope he can join us for a future presentation on his forthcoming project.
