PRESENTATION
ALIENS, SPACESHIPS, ACTION!
ANIMATING THE VISUAL EFFECTS OF SPIELBERG’S DISCLOSURE DAY
Presented by Digital Domain
with Elizabeth “Liz” Bernard · moderated by Marina Antunes
Regular: $5 (incl. GST + transaction fees)
Liz will explain in depth how the team at Digital Domain created the visual effects of Steven Spielberg’s latest sci-fi thriller. This talk will focus primarily on animation, but will also touch on character design, FX simulations, and more to reveal the artistry behind the scenes. Learn how the crew carefully pieced together the nerve-wracking train sequence by combining blue screen shots, practical effects, and full CG environments into a breathless action set piece. Liz will also discuss how the team brought the animals and aliens to life; she'll divulge how actual declassified historical footage and eyewitness accounts were used as reference for some of the key scenes in the film, and speak to the unique challenges posed by working on a film with a high degree of secrecy.
